Hello Badgers:

My name is Rodney H. Badger and I descend from Giles Badger of Newberry MA. (1639) and Rodney Badger of Salt Lake City (1824- 1853). I recently visited your site and saw a photograph which I immediately recognized as looking exactly like Carlos Ashby Badger along with a portrait of his wife Rose which was subsequently confirmed by your captions. Carlos Ashby Badger was my Grandfather‘s half brother.

There are two very historically interesting Badgers in Louisiana; Edmond (“iron coffin man“) Badger of East Feliciana Parish, LA., and Algernon Sidney Badger, Police Chief of New Orleans during Battle of Liberty Place.

Saw your pictures of Buchart Gardens, I’ll take my bride there this spring.

Are you descended from the first wife of Rodney Carlos Badger? Are those two Badgers in Louisiana our relatives?

Evelyn:

I apologize for my tardy response. When I initially responded, I didn’t save “Badgers of Louisiana” to my Favorites List and couldn’t check for any follow-up response.

I am descended from Rodney Carlos and his first wife Harriet Anne Whitaker Taylor (daughter of John Taylor and Sophia Whitaker), Rodney Taylor Badger and Robert Moore Badger.

As for your second question, the answer is yes, we are related to both of them though distantly. Algernon Sydney Badger is my 5th Cousin, 5 times removed and our common ancestor is John Badger, b. 1643, .d 1691. Edmond Badger III is my 3rd Cousin, 6 times removed, our common ancestor is Nathaniel Badger, b. 1675, d. 1751.

I had the pleasure of meeting Rodney Jenkins Badger and his wife Phyllis Snow and one of their sons Richard, at his home in Falls Church, VA in 1999. Rodney Jenkins was a son of Carlos and Rosalia. It was from him that I acquired a copy of “Lihonia and Ironrod“, a memorial to his father and mother based upon their letters.

It is best to contact me at my email address as I don’t subscribe to Lists or Feeds. If I can be of any assistance, do not hesitate to contact me.
